About - Asagao is a full-Thoroughbred stallion who has been aimed at a career as a stallion for Warmblood breeders since birth. Since the very beginning he has proved himself against his Warmblood peers and is a really exciting prospect as a stallion, particularly for eventing.
Performance - At age five, Asagao made a fabulous debut in sport. He competed successfully in showjumping classes against purpose-bred Warmbloods, as well as in young horse eventing classes, gaining record scores of 9.0. In his first year, he won four out of five eventing competitions and was second once. He qualified twice for the Bundeschampionat (the German Young Horse Championship), but as a thoroughbred he was not allowed to compete in the final. In 2015, Asagao added further wins in 6-year old eventing classes, scoring 9 at L-level, and gained first placings in international CIC* eventing classes.
Sire - Tertullian is by Miswaki, and out of Turbaine by Trempolino. His dam Turbaine is a half-sister of Urban Sea (who is by Tertullian's sire Miswaki), winner of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe and the dam of the Irish super-star stallions Galileo and Sea the Stars.
Damline - In the first five generations of the pedigree of Asagao we find outstanding thoroughbred sires that have played important roles in sport horse breeding. For example, Best Turn, the third sire of Asagao’s dam, is the sire of Hand in Glove xx, the grand prix showjumper who sired many international showjumpers including the Olympian and top-ranked French eventing sire, Jaguar Mail (sire of European champion FischerTakinou and double World Young Horse Champion Tenareze). In the fifth generation we find the thoroughbred sire Boran, the sire of Laudanum, a hugely important sire in French breeding. This damline also produced Amerigo Vespucci, sire of German Olympic eventer Air Jordan.
Progeny - Asagao's first foals were born in 2015 and delivered instantly impressive results. His first crop consisted of only twelve foals from mainly jumping mares, and out of these twelve foals, three won foal inspections again Warmbloods; an impressive record for any stallion. Asagao's first Hannoverian branded foal, out of a dam by Cornet Obolensky x Ramiro Son, won the jumping foal class at the Hannoverian foal inspection in Wittmund. At the Voerde LVM qualification, Asagao also presented two jumping-bred foals, whose dams were by Caruso and Carthago Z. Both foals qualified for the LVM Foal Championship in Lienen, winning against competition from purely dressage-bred foals.
